The strength of your jawbone is important to your total oral health. If your jawbone is weakened from physical trauma or missing teeth, you may need to get a bone graft so your jaw can properly hold both your natural teeth and dental implants. Bone grafting helps to strengthen and build up your jawbone until it's dense enough to support an implant. At Elegant Smiles, bone grafting is used to strengthen your jawbone before dental implant surgery to replace missing or weak teeth. Plan a consultation at our Las Vegas, NV office to learn more about bone graft surgery.

Bone graft surgery rebuilds the jaw so it can support a dental implant; however, you have to be willing to commit time to the process. Bone grafting may require several months to complete. As the result, you will have a stronger jawbone that will not only support your dental implant, but also your natural teeth for better overall oral health. Bone grafting is often done in conjunction with a dental extraction. Once the tooth has been removed, the socket is cleaned out to clear debris and infection. The prepared graft will be placed and a “bandage” called a membrane will be placed over it. Over the following three to four months, the graft should heal and integrate with your jawbone, a process known as osseointegration. During this time, it is critical to have a good home oral care routine with brushing and flossing along with any products recommended by our team.

Dr. Phan and staff were excellent. Above and beyond, top notch quality. I have found my trusted local office.

I just had a fantastic experience with Dr. Phi Phan and his team! Dr. Phan is not only professional but also genuinely cares about his patients. The technician, Ricky, was super friendly and made the whole process easy and very informative. And I can’t say enough good things about Trisha, the intern. Her enthusiasm really added to the experience!

The best dentist office experience ever. I'd say probably 3 big highlights of this place that allow it to truly stand above all those corporate dental groups (like a certain one I transferred from). First is the people, man they're some of the warmest I've met outside of perhaps my family and friends, special shoutouts to Dr. Phan (stellar doc with great advice and he's quite funny), Ricky (hygienist who explained everything in incredible detail), and Shonte (I felt like I was talking to my aunt, she asked me all about my day and the like). Second is the exam chair which doubles as a massage chair, thought about placing this point first because you literally get a massage during your dental cleaning. Third is the overhead TV that plays beautiful videos (of I think the California coast?) that you can watch while getting your cleaning. I would recommend this place to everyone, it just feels like a family (you're actually supporting a family business, husband/wife duo), and you feel taken care of here.

About Us
Does getting a bone graft hurt?
Bone grafts are performed while patients are sedated. This helps to prevent discomfort during the actual procedure. Overall, you should not feel any pain throughout the duration of the bone graft.
What is recovery like?
Recovery from a bone graft procedure is fairly quick. You should feel more normal and pain-free within a matter of 2 weeks. However, total healing will take anywhere from 3 — 9 months, depending on the type and location of the graft.
Does a bone graft help with periodontal disease?
If you need a bone graft, it's likely you have some missing bone structure. Bone grafts can help new bone to grow where bone had been destroyed by periodontal disease. Contact Elegant Smiles to find out more.
