Classified between a tooth-colored or composite filling and a crown, inlays and onlays can treat a decayed or damaged tooth. Used on molars and premolars, an inlay covers the concave middle of a tooth and an onlay covers the tooth's upper, rounded edges. Like fillings and crowns, onlays and inlays can be created in a variety of materials — metal, porcelain, and composite resin. Our dental experts can help Las Vegas, NV patients better understand composite fillings, crowns, inlays, and onlays so they can make the right decision about treating their teeth at Elegant Smiles.

An onlay or inlay is a good choice when you have a damaged tooth or a large cavity that's too big to get filled but does not require the entire coverage of a crown. During your examination, our doctors can examine your x-rays to determine the ideal method for your needs. If an onlay or inlay is chosen, our team will explain the available materials that will best suit your needs. After applying local anesthesia to numb the treatment area, our doctors will start by cleaning out regions of decay. Other techniques of sedation may be used in case you experience stress or a strong gag reflex. Once the tooth is cleaned and prepared, impressions will be made. If you're getting a restoration made in a lab, a temporary filling will be set until it is prepared. Once your inlay or onlay is ready, our dental experts will carefully set and bond it to your tooth. Our dentist may polish the edges or adjust the fit so your tooth is properly covered and feels comfortable.

If only local anesthesia was used, you should be able to leave following the procedure and return to your normal activities. You may feel mild discomfort, swelling, or sensitivity for several days once your onlay or inlay is placed. Please call Elegant Smiles if you have any concerns following your treatment. Your inlay or onlay should be taken care of just like your own teeth using daily brushing and flossing.

The best dentist I’ve ever been to. I had a 3-4 year gap from my last dentist so I needed some fillings tbh. They walked me through everything so smoothly, showing me each tooth and areas of concern and laid out game plan to move forward. Had my first fillings done here this week and they were so much more precise than any other dentist I’ve gone too, and they made sure that I didn’t feel any pain whatsoever. I appreciate the doctors and all of their staff is top notch too. Most people are scared to go to the dentist but this office made it so comfortable it eased my nerves about everything. They play a TV during your care and their chairs are part massage chair if you’re into that. Extra bonus

If you ever need dental work done, I highly recommend Elegant Smiles. The staff is amazing. Doctor Phil Pham, Ricky, Susanna and Shante explain every detail and will answer all your questions. Any veterans like myself get a referral from the VA and go there. Thanks for everything.

I only pretend to be a tough guy on deployments — when I'm at the dentist I'm a big baby... Nobody likes going to the dentist, Elegant Smiles knows this. They've done a great job making this place look and feel more like a high-end spa than a dentist office. Seriously, it's the nicest dentist office I've ever been to, the first time I walked in I thought I was in the wrong place... Beautiful atmosphere, modern tech, relaxing music, and friendly people — worlds different than the other little-shops-of-horror the VA has sent me to before. And what's even nicer than the "spa" are the people. The staff I met (Shante, Susanna, and the treatment team Dr. Phan and Ricky), are all super nice, patient, understanding, and answered my million nervous questions. Like many people, I'll never look forward to going to the dentist or people using power drills inside my mouth… But when I can't put it off any longer and it absolutely has to be done, Elegant Smiles is the only place I'm going back to.

Shantae that is in the front office is absolutely amazing. Her customer service is beyond exceptional compared to most dental offices I have been too. Her sense of urgency when dealing with the VA exceeds the standards. Dealing with the VA can be a headache, but she reassured me that she would handle everything for me. The turn around for treatment was quicker than the average. Ricky was my dental assistance also exceeding the standards. I do not believe I have ever had someone as thorough as he is. From the beginning to the end, he reassured me , and simply walked me through everything that he was doing. I highly recommend this dental clinic. Might I add the dentist ONLY see one to two patients with the allotted time.

About Us
How are inlays and onlays placed?

The placement of inlays and onlays typically requires two dental visits. During the first visit at Elegant Smiles, the dentist will remove the decayed or damaged portion of the tooth and take impressions. These impressions are sent to a dental laboratory to create custom-made inlays or onlays. In the second visit, the restorations are bonded to the tooth using dental cement.

How long do inlays and onlays typically last?

Inlays and onlays are known for their durability and longevity. With proper care and maintenance, they can last for many years, often exceeding a decade. Regular dental check-ups with our team in Las Vegas, NV and good oral hygiene practices are essential for extending their lifespan.

How do I take care of my inlays or onlays once they are placed?

Caring for your inlays and onlays is similar to maintaining your natural teeth. It is important to follow a proper oral hygiene routine that includes brushing your teeth at least twice a day, flossing daily, and visiting your dentist for regular check-ups and cleanings. Avoid chewing on hard objects or using your teeth as tools to prevent damage to the restorations. With good oral care and regular dental visits, your inlays and onlays can last for many years.
